Case Study: Karma Bar in Brighton: Video Mapping System with plasma screens and video projectors
Case Study: Karma, Brighton Marina
Video plasma screens and mapping system video projectors
This is a case study of a project based on technology in our previous article on the video mapping effects.
We were asked to visit Karma Bar Brighton Marina to design a new visual system to take in the revival of the area has been planning. With the use of new DJ, where you want to add a system would be able to display the actions in the DJ box, while creating a focal point for a great thing that people had never seen before.
It was decided that a large wooden sculpture of Brighton Karma eastern wall is the starting point of the system. In almost 6m in height and 2 m wide, the sculpture is a great base for us to work on the creation of a video projector fantastic effect.
The entire system is divided into two sections, both based on the size. The first part was to integrate the four plasma screens in height. The four windows / openings in the class would be the location of the four screens, but in order to address these we had to use four 42 "plasma screens rotate vertically to take advantage of them. The size of the wall was removed and four NEC Plasma commercial part of the wall, which is in the exact position of the windows so that when the size was restored, Frameless screens that are fully visible. That way, when screens are not active, it becomes very difficult to distinguish plasma screens. This is in accordance with the requests for tickets for the system is very discreet when not in use.
The screens were transferred to a video matrix switcher 8×8 which was to be controlled remotely via computer. Four DVD players and four cable TV Closed Circuit then giving way to show the video and DVD during the day and photos of DJ and the crowd at night. While the DVD was created specifically for space, and changes during editing to compensate for the rotation of the plasma. By having the switch matrix controlled by the computer, This allowed us to create a program that drove the pictures on the screens, giving a more fluid, continuous and not see the same image on each screen at all times, as you can see in the image below.
The second phase was the video mapping system. This involved setting instead of two projectors 3500 ANSI lumens to project size. They were mounted roof boxes personally to keep them hidden. The projectors are then connected a computer system based on graphics using VGA cables to keep the quality as high as possible. A snapshot of the sculpture been loaded into the system, allowing different parts of the sculpture to be identified in the software. This makes it possible to create the video and graphic content that can be shown in specific parts of the sculpture. Thus, the size becomes an interactive projection surface, rather than screen boring normal projection. Hide projector that gives the impression that during the day, the size is just a line on the wall, but the night seems to literally "bright."
Combining these two parts, the whole system has a huge effect. Finally, we moved from the DJ box at the front of the sculpture, creating a focal point and allow the new DJ to be shown to the crowd. The system was programmed to run automatically displayed, the possibility that the DJ turn specific time visual effects with music, which increases the overall impact of the system.

What DVD player will do a good job of scaling standard DVD to 720p or 1080i?
Well, l have tried to ask this question several times. It would be nice if someone actually said that practical experience with the question. He shows me a link to a site that sells a HD DVD player or standard-definition DVDs, which claims to have the capacity expansion is meaningless. I can search the websites of my own and find hundreds of players that luxury. New research indicates that most of them do not make a difference. I am looking for someone who bought a player DVD with the explicit purpose of extending standard-definition DVDs, [480 lines per inch] to display 720p or 1080i, and was very happy with the results. If you do not have a DVD player, LCD projector and a screen 8 feet or more, you do not have an answer that will help me.
I have a player upscaling DVD for my samsung 50 inch HDTV 720. Im very happy with tons of picture quality very clear picture of the options for change .. OPPO OPDV971H the price of retail $ 200 is one of the best rated DVD players. A good thing can keep updating the software in a patch as amended and added new features for it. Also check this site you can find a lot of discussion on this topic and others like it and decide what works best for you. AVS DVD upscaling forums ..
