Recently, Musiq Soulchild released his first ever Christmas album, "A Philly Soul Christmas". Now, all I usually prefer to comment 'critical' (That is, people who really do not know much about the music starts), comments on this album has received since its launch on need to write few words. Apparently, the critics "the vast majority of those who decided to review this album so far are strict traditionalists … and certainly if you're a traditionalist where your holiday tuneage is involved, not everyone can enjoy "A Christmas Philly Soul." However, many of us bought our Christmas music is not on themes that have been restructured for the umpteenth time, but based on registration of the artist. Indeed, when I buy a Christmas CD by Musiq Soulchild, not only should have Christmas music, but I was expecting a Album Musiq Soulchild. That's where I think the previous reviews were lost, and when he hit the nail on Musiq.
The album begins with "Jingle Bells" and anyone who bought an album of R & B Christmas knows that is not very easy to do cold "Jingle Bells" sound. In fact, the version here has the same ridiculous, hokey as most versions do … but in the first few seconds, you get a bit of vocal jazz arrangements Musiq fans expect, and is sucked anyway. "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing! Suit, and began talking with an introduction with music that has a clear quality of P-Funk to her. "O Come All Ye Faithful" begins with an agreement fairly traditional, but quickly based on performance fantastic run by the melancholic sounds of Musiq. These soulful voice, however, are not enough to salvage the deal overloaded "Deck the Halls . "O Holy Night" is a difficult issue to address. Since I am today with the hat 'critical', I must say the creation a song like that to a reggae arrangement was a risky but rewarding. Personally, I always liked about "O Holy Night" is dynamic. It is the intention to start building the calm and even a whirlpool of pure emotion, however, reggae, by nature, is intended to "Rock Steady". Yet I can not say that does not work (it really does), but not to sacrifice the best available original. "O Christmas Tree" is a fairly current R & B take, but it really gives the closing moments of life with a breakdown of jazz singing. "The First Noel "closes the game, while the music arrangement is fairly simple, Musiq comes with a very cool vocal arrangement that makes it more worthy.
It is unfortunate that Joe Blow in the Chronicle all considered our traditional Christmas and can enjoy a modern tweak. We are, after while living in a time of change … and while not all risks Musiq takes this series is present, it is well worth a place in any fan of R & B Christmas collection.
